Corrections and Retractions Policy
Advances in Economic Studies is committed to preserving the accuracy, integrity, transparency, and permanence of the scholarly record through responsible correction and retraction practices that follow internationally recognized publication ethics standards.
Post-publication updates are managed in accordance with the journal's editorial policies and accepted ethical publishing principles to maintain confidence in the published literature.
Version of Record (VoR)
Once an article has been published in its final form, it becomes the Version of Record (VoR), which serves as the permanent, authoritative, and citable version of the scholarly work. Any approved corrections or updates are permanently linked to the Version of Record to ensure transparency.
Post-Publication Corrections
The journal may issue post-publication notices when changes to a published article are necessary, including:
- Errors affecting interpretation, readability, or indexing
- Issues related to research reliability or publication ethics
- Matters requiring clarification to maintain the accuracy of the scholarly record
Correction Notices
The journal may publish the following types of correction notices:
- Erratum — Correction of errors introduced during the publication process.
- Corrigendum — Correction of errors identified by the authors after publication.
- Addendum — Publication of additional information that enhances or clarifies the original article.
All correction notices remain permanently linked to the original article to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record.
Concerns Related to Article Integrity
Concerns regarding the validity, reliability, authorship, ethical conduct, or integrity of published research are investigated according to the journal's editorial policies and internationally accepted publication ethics standards. Investigations may involve communication with authors, reviewers, institutions, or other relevant parties where appropriate.
Expression of Concern
An Expression of Concern may be issued when:
- Serious concerns exist regarding the reliability of a published article
- Possible research or publication misconduct is under investigation
- Available evidence is inconclusive while further investigation is ongoing
The notice remains linked to the article until the investigation is concluded and may subsequently be updated, replaced, or withdrawn.
Retractions
A published article may be retracted when:
- Research findings are shown to be unreliable
- Major errors or inaccuracies significantly affect the conclusions
- Research or publication misconduct has occurred
- The peer review process has been compromised
- Ethical standards have been seriously violated
- Authorship, data, or supporting evidence cannot be verified
Retraction notices clearly explain the reason for retraction and remain permanently linked to the original article while preserving the scholarly record.
Article Removal
Removal of published material is undertaken only in exceptional circumstances where required by law or necessary to protect individuals or the public.
- Serious privacy violations
- Defamatory or unlawful content
- Material that presents a significant legal or public safety risk
Supplementary Material and Research Data
Supplementary files, datasets, appendices, and supporting materials form part of the scholarly record where applicable. Significant updates or corrections to these materials may require formal notices to ensure transparency, traceability, and continued reliability.
Name Change Policy
The journal supports author identity and inclusivity by allowing authors to request updates to their published name for personal, professional, cultural, or gender-related reasons. Such requests are handled confidentially, and no public correction notice or legal documentation is normally required.
Requesting a Name Change
Authors requesting a name update should provide:
- Previously published name
- Updated name
- Contact email address
- Relevant article DOI(s)
